Dental Veneers typically require 2 or more appointments. The initial appointment will involve your dentist going over with you what you’d like to accomplish with the veneers, and a treatment plan will be created. A second appointment begins with a cleaning, and the dentist determining the correct shade for the veneer to best match your natural tooth colour. A small amount of enamel is removed in order to adhere the veneer in place. An impression of the tooth is made in order to create the veneer, and a temporary veneer is put in place until the final veneer is created. This also gives you an opportunity to ‘test-drive’ the temporary veneer until the real one is ready. When your final veneer is ready, the temporary veneer is removed, and the tooth is cleaned again. The veneer is etched and then rinsed with water and allowed to dry before the cement and veneer is placed on the tooth. The veneer is then light cured for 60 seconds before the dentist removes any excess material and polishes the veneer.
Dental Veneers can replace orthodontic treatment in many cases because they are used to reshape crooked teeth that may otherwise require orthodontic treatment.
